MRIN-19I David Ball

David Ball was born January 27, 1875 in Foosland, Champaign County, Illinois. He was the tenth child born to Robert Gore Ball and Susan Jane Brock and he was the last of their surviving thirteen children when he passed away on February 19, 1959 in Champaign, Champaign County, Illinois at age 84. He was buried next to his wife in the Mansfield Cemetery.

David worked for many years as a ticket agent and later a freight agent for a railroad company.

He married Lizzie “Alma” Matthews in 1899 at Foosland, Champaign County, Illinois. Alma was born on February 22, 1878 at Mansfield, Piatt County, Illinois to George Francis Matthews (1832-1906) and Susan Hawk 1839-1905). Alma died on December 13, 1958 in Champaign, Champaign County, Illinois at 80 years of age. She was buried in the Mansfield Cemetery.

David and Alma’s children were *infant son, Dwight Kermit Ball (1904-1994), **Bessie M. Ball, Inez “Ruth” Ball (1906-1996)

Right now it appears as though none of David and Alma’s children had children of their own. I’m still researching them.

*Infant Son may not have been given a name. He shares a cemetery marker with his parents that simply says “Infant 1902 Son”

** Bessie M. Ball was born about 1906 in Illinois. She married a firefighter named George R. East. They are found together in city directories for Urbana, Champaign County, Illinois in the years 1957-1960. I’m having a hard time locating any other information on them. Researching through newspapers for surnames of Ball and East has me going through almost all sporting events, dances, locations and crossroads with east in them. It’s been a little crazy to say the least. I’ve found death notices, but no obituaries for Dwight, Ruth, and who I believe is Bessie simply based on the fact that the city she died in was the same city that her sister Ruth lived. All three of them ended up in Florida. If I do in fact have the right Bessie East, then she would have died on June 6th 1985 in Boynton Beach, Palm Beach, Florida. It’s important to note before you add this death info to your tree that I still need to find some kind of documentation to prove this is the correct Bessie.
