MRIN-68 Jacob Conrad and Verena Lerch

Jacob Conrad and Verena Lerch

My 7th great grandparents and my very first confirmed immigrants.

MRIN-68

As always, please keep in mind that this is research in progress. I am working on gathering as many of the documents, stories and pictures as possible to put together as much of an accurate story about their lives as I can. Don’t take anything as fact until it is verified.

Jacob (1) Curet/Conrath/Conrad

Jacob came to America with his 4 children and his brother, Ulrich. His wife died shortly before their journey. They were part of the Palatine Migration to Germantown, PA. They set sail from Rotterdam by way of Cowes on the ship “Patience” and arrived in Philadelphia on 11 Aug 1750. So far only Jacob and Jacob Jr are listed on the partially re-constructed passenger list. The family name is entered as Conrath rather than Conrad.

Verena “Franny” Lerch AKA Frena Svana Lauk

  • Note: I’ve not seen any actual sources in which the wife of Jacob (1) Conrad is named. All of the information that I have on her is from various family trees without one single documented source. Most say that she died in Switzerland just before the family came to America. It’s obvious that they were just repeating what they’ve found in other family trees since they had nothing to verify that information. I’ve seen at least one tree that states that she died in 1774 in Pendleton County, WV. Again, no sources. I did just recently locate an older family tree with some actual research shown in it.  I’ve recently found one older family tree that shows some actual research (the link will be in the sources below). Here is the reference to an actual source for this person “I have lost the information, but I was told that Frena and Verna are the same person, but until I can confirm this information, I am leaving both persons in my files. Darrell Groves bnh@iolinc.net (Hamilton, Barbara) Date: Sat, 16 Sep 2000 17:27:59 -0400 “Jacob Conrad was only married one time . Bible has one spelling and calls her Franny (Frena) and records from Switzerland shows her full name as Verena Lerch. Records show Verena died April 19 1749 in Switzerland. They were married ca 1742 and she died in Switzerland. He then came to America with his 4 children Barbara, Jacob Jr. , Elizabeth and Mary.” “I have had research completed in Switzerland to confirm the death date for Verena Lerch as April 19, 1749.” VLConrad@AOL.Com”

  1. Just want to say hi. I am a descendant of Jacob Conrad also, through the Fishers, Hedricks, Shreves…I can’t remember the exact lineage at the moment but I will look it up and let you know. Several brothers and sisters married several brothers and sisters so it makes it all really complicated. Take care!

    • Hi Julie, it’s always nice to meet a new cousin.

    • Hi Julie! Thanks for taking the time to say hi. It’s always great to meet new cousins. I would love to see your lineage whenever it’s convenient for you.

  2. Just discovered relationship with Jacob and Frena Conrad through the Mollohan line. My gr. grandmother, maternal, was Martha Ann Mollohan Cool. Thanks for your info.

  3. So happy to find this page! I descend from this couple on both sides of my family. Haven’t researched my dad’s side too much but my great-great-grandmother is in a direct line (Sabina Conrad Curry). Her daughter, Landona, married RT Brooks and I descend from this line. Sabina & John M Curry had 8 children.
