In 1788 “During the formation of Pendleton County, Thomas Collett was granted the contract to erect the county buildings, for which in due course he received $166.67”

Margaret Barlet/Bartlett

  • Margaret is quite often seen as Margaret Clifton in many family trees. Her brother was named John Clifton and so I think that the assumption was made that Clifton was her surname also. However, it appears that they had different fathers and their mother may not have married either of them as she was still referred to by her maiden name in her father’s will along with both of her children. ” …to daughter Mary Conrad’s two children, Margaret Barlet, John Clifton, land bought from Saml. Caplinger…”
  • Born: about 1765
  • Married: *Thomas Collett Sr.
  • Died: After 1804
  • Buried:
  • Cause of Death:
  • Parents: Mary Conrad and unknown Mr. Barlet/Bartlett

Their Children

  1. Mary Collett (1780-1834)
