MRIN-31 John Pennington and Winnie Thompson

John Pennington and Winnie Thompson

My maternal 3rd great grandparents

MRIN-31

John Pennington

  • Born: about 1802 in Virginia
  • Married: Winnie Thompson on 02 July 1827 in Pendleton County, (West) Virginia
  • Died: between 1880-1900. He is last seen in the 1880 census as a widower at age 78. John was ill the day the enumerator visited the home of which he was listed as a boarder. I can’t make out what the illness was, possibly “in fevor”. The 1890 census was destroyed and he does not appear in the 1900 census
  • Buried: Possibly in the Black Fork area of Tucker County where he is last seen
  • Cause of Death:
  • Parents: Richard Pennington and Mary

Winnie Thompson

  • Born: about 1802 in Virginia
  • Married: John Pennington 02 July 1827 in Pendleton County, (West) Virginia
  • Died: between 1860-1870. She is last seen in the 1860 census. John, age 67,  appears without her in the 1870 census
  • Buried: Possibly in Randolph County where she is last seen
  • Cause of Death:
  • Parents:

Their Children

  1. Nathaniel Pennington (1830-????)
  2. Ellen Pennington (1832-????) Ellen was 18 years old and in the household of Nathaniel Pennington and his wife, Sarah in the 1850 census. Their household was between Nathaniel’s parents and paternal grandparents. I don’t see Ellen in the 1860 census. I’m making the assumption that she was Nathaniel’s sister, however she was the same age as his other sister, Mary A. (Pennington) Wyatt.
  3. Mary A. Pennington (1832-????)
  4. Elizabeth Pennington (1834-????)
  5. Dianna Pennington (1837-????)
  6. Vincent Pennington (1840-????)
  7. Jesse Pennington (1843-????)
